It has been awhile since my last post, but I’ve been learning a LOT in Lightroom and Photoshop. I recently did a portrait photo shoot and want to push to get a little more under my belt in gently brushing up a portrait. Some new techniques I learned were the high pass filter, more work on the healing tool and of course burning and dodging. I’ve never really had to do a whole lot with photos before so this challenged me. Not that the subject was bad, but because I’m looking at photos with a bit more scrutiny now.
First off, a great big thank you to Pete for having the faith and confidence in me to do his portraits. Thanks Pete! We did a shoot for his big news of being a Top 40 Under 40 in Savannah’s Business Magazine. Congratulations again for that! He needed some portraits both for the upcoming issue and his business ads. He’s passionate about ‘Green’ living and wanted a setting that would reflect that – natural, marshes, rustic – you get the idea. We got some great shots and I had him pick out some of his top picks (about 10) so I could quickly turn them around.
Here are some before and after shots of his chosen set. If you click on the first image – that’s the untouched up one and the second image of the series incorporates the Healing brush, burning and dodging, surface blur, high pass filter and an inverted hue and saturation layer to brighten the teeth. The most important thing for me was to keep Pete looking natural and not over processed. Sure we could have gone extreme in skin softening, but that’s not what we were going for.
Enjoy
